2019 CAFAD Conference
Thursday, October 10, 2019 to Friday, October 11, 2019
As host to the 2019 annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Fine Arts Deans, I warmly welcome you to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Victoria. Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, the Faculty of Fine Arts plays a vital role in Victoria’s rich artistic and cultural communities. The Faculty is home to the School of Music and Departments of Theatre, Visual Arts, Art History & Visual Studies, and Creative Writing, interdisciplinary programs in film studies and interactive media, and multiple performance and exhibition venues. With its temperate climate and ocean setting, Victoria offers an ideal location for a fall conference.
– Susan Lewis, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Victoria
(Day 1 – 1:230)
Key Note Speaker – Jutta Treviranus – “Designing with the Edge In”
Jutta Treviranus is the Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) and professor in the faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto (http://idrc.ocadu.ca). Dr. Treviranus established the IDRC in 1993 as the nexus of a growing global community that proactively works to ensure that our digitally transformed and globally connected society is designed inclusively. She also heads the Inclusive Design Institute, a multi-university regional centre of expertise (https://inclusivedesign.ca). Jutta founded an innovative graduate program in inclusive design at OCAD University. She leads international multi-partner research networks that have created broadly implemented innovations that support digital equity e.g., Fluid Project (https://fluidproject.org), FLOE (https://floeproject.org), and many others. Jutta’s work has been attributed as the impetus for corporate adoption of more inclusive practices in large enterprise companies such as Microsoft.
